RST Secure Durham University EPOS Contract

Following a competitive tendering process, Retail Systems Technology (RST) have been selected as the Cashless Catering & EPOS System Provider for Durham University in England. Durham, one of the UK's top ranking universities, decided that the quality of system and service on offer from RST was second to none and had no hesitation in picking RST ahead of the competition.

The project will consist of a total of 38 EPOS terminals, Cashless Revaluation Units and the very latest in finger vein recognition as a means of identifying each student's cashless account.

Durham will also have full integration between their online E-Commerce Store and the Point Of Sale - thanks to a full link with iTouch POS Software.

Derry Wins First UK City Of Culture

Londonderry has been named the UK's inaugural City of Culture at a special event in Liverpool.

Derry won the title ahead of Birmingham, Norwich and Sheffield. The accolade could bring up to 3,000 jobs to the city and boost tourism

It follows Liverpool's successful tenure as European Capital of Culture in 2008.

As part of the winning bid a competition was issued challenging entrants to design something that would represent the cultural side of the city. The winning entrant was Roma Bradley, Aged 11 - and daughter of RST's Northwest Area Sales Manager, Paul Bradley.

This represents a fantastic achievement for Roma, who's winning piece formed a core part of the winning bid for the city.

Vein Recognition Launched by RST EPOS

Biometric vein identification is one of the most advanced biometric identification technologies available in today's market. The technology works by identifying subcutaneous (under the skin) vein patterns in an individual's finger. When the user's finger is placed on the scanner, an infrared light maps the location of the veins. The red blood cells, present within the vein, absorb these light rays and show up on the map as black lines, whereas the remaining hand structure shows up white. After the vein template is extracted, it is matched to the corresponding previously stored pattern.
