Founded in 1845, Queen’s University Belfast has long been at the forefront of leading universities and has been ever present in the top ten universities in the UK. With such a massive reputation, Queen’s has seen student numbers grow year on year and therefore a huge level of responsibility was placed upon the Queen’s University Student’s Union (QUBSU) to ensure that they had the right infrastructure and systems in place to successfully manage the many facilities for students. |

The range of commercial services offered by QUBSU includes 4 bars, 3 shops and 2 Cafés – all of which operate at various times during the day and receive huge volumes of customers made up from both staff and students alike. The desired EPoS system would have to be capable of satisfying the variety of demands of each specific environment whilst also being able to send multiple reports to the QUBSU head office. To compete for the QUBSU contract, any interested party had to participate via a rigorous tendering process, during which each company would be evaluated on a variety of criteria such as their product, support, installation, cost amongst others. It was during this process that RST came to the fore recalls QUBSU Bars Manager Stephen Anderson, “The tendering process used by Queen’s is really demanding and specific, and for us, it was during this when RST really stood out, and have really benchmarked themselves against the competition”. Having expressed their huge disappointment in the previous installed system due to a lack of support and functionality, they chose RST for a complete overhaul of their EPoS requirements. In total , there were 14 APOS Touch Screen Terminals installed throughout the Student’s Union Complex, all of which are Water and Dust Resistant and included iTouch POS Software and were all linked to the QUBSU Offices using iTouch Back Office. Staff at the various bars found the system extremely easy to use, with minimal training required and a multitude of functions, such as Mix & Match and Promotional pricing, everything they would need was now available to them. For Stephen, one of the most important aspects of the system would the reporting element – taken care of by iTouch Back Office. In being affiliated with Queen’s University, QUBSU is subject to the same auditing procedures and therefore it was vitally important that the system would produce accurate and complete financial reports for each of the bars, this would not only help them with their accounts but also in improving marketing efforts for each location as needed. With iTouch Back Office, QUBSU can now break down reports by bar, product, date, and time amongst many others, and are also in complete control of pricing levels for each individual location. “We had one member of staff who said he had learned more from 1 hour with iTouch Stock Control than he had in 1 year with the previous system!”, said Mr. Anderson. The level of support offered by RST was another aspect highlighted by Stephen and his team, “RST provide us with a great service – if we ever have any questions, everything can be resolved by a simple phone call”. As with all RST customers QUBSU enjoy the many benefits of remote support, where our support engineers can remotely connect to any system and instantly fix any issues or errors that may arise. “For us at QUBSU it is really important that our staff are confident using the system, and thanks to RST we have an added feeling of security in knowing that a high standard of support is there and that problems are dealt with”, concluded Mr. Anderson.
