Protel PosXml interface setup

Tapa

  • Add or edit a tender
  • Choose tender type Hotel
  • In the EFT section choose Protel PosXml
  • Endpoint should be the machine hosting pcon in URL format, for example http://192.168.1.24/
  • Port will normally be 8200 as configured in pcon
  • All Tapa terminals in branch must be on report number 1 or greater, because Protel does not accept sales with a zero report number although Tapa allows this. Check order takers in particular, as they can be left on report 0 from install.

Protel

Configure mapping for the departments, or prepare this information for a member of Protel support to complete.

You must use the Tapa internal ID for each department, not the customer reference.

The Tapa internal ID can be found in the address bar of your browser when editing a department. The same applies for Products, VAT and Tenders.

Internal ID numbers must be used because Protel only allows integers in these fields on the interface, whereas Tapa allows alphanumeric values in the customer reference field.

Non-product sales mapping

Sales which are not derived from a product must be explicitly mapped within Tapa. These items can be given a product to be mapped in order to apply VAT for Protel revenue reporting.

This includes:

  • Gift Vouchers
  • Deposits
  • Credit Notes
  • Lodgements
  • Service Charges

Under the Tender EFT in Tapa you will see these options listed with a choice of product.

Troubleshooting

Query the Tapa logs for hotel to investigate any issues.

You can telnet from a POS machine back to pcon on port 8200 to test connectivity. Telnet can be added from Programs and Features > Add Windows Features, then open Command Prompt and type telnet 192.168.1.24 8200. If you are presented with a blank console window and no error, then you are connected.

FAQ

Should I use Tapa customer references or internal IDs for Protel mapping?

Use Tapa internal IDs. Protel only accepts integer values in these mapping fields, while customer references in Tapa can be alphanumeric.

How can I quickly test whether pcon is reachable?

Telnet from a POS machine to the pcon host on port 8200. A blank console window with no error indicates that the connection is working.
